  1. Because of the hype of the '05 vintage, Bordeaux are very expensive.  There are some bood wines that are cheaper (relative to Bordeaux prices)  Chateau Pipeu is very good and is a Wine Spectator top 100.  Chateau Ducru makes a second version called Le Croix which is very good.  Belefont Belcier also under $50.00.  Joanin Becoat is a good value for around $20,00.  Depending on your wine store, you may be able to get older vintages for cheaper prices.  The 06's are out and they are the same price, but not a good vintage.  Wine Spectator rate 7 Bordeaux at 100 points but the cheapest is $500.00 and Chateau Latour can cost you $4K.

  2. Simple questoin, tough to answer.  Tough because you have so much to choose from.  What are you willing to spend; what style do you prefer; left or right bank, etc.  That said, let's skip the prelim's.  You can get a decent bottle at the AOC Bordeaux or AOC Bordeaux Superior level.  (Superior apellation allows the winemaker to ferment a half degree stronger in alcohol, I believe).  Specifically, Chateau Ricard is outstanding, as is Chateau Parenchere.  Both under $15, hit the websites to find it near you.  It will not disappoint.  Good Luck.

  3. Chateau Margaux (really expensive though)

    Chateau Gloria

    Chateau Lafite-Rothschild (also quite expensive)

    Chateau Leoville Barton
