Question:

A good all-round restaurant in Birmingham (UK)?

We are planning a family birthday (my Grandad's 82nd) and need some help to find a good restaurant in Birmingham (UK) that will satisfy all of our tastes. We want to go on a Saturday night to somewhere that has a good atmosphere but is quite sophisticated. My sister has a very limited palate and so does her boyfriend, so they would be quite happy with Chicken and Chips!

Does anyone have any recommendations that would suit us all?

We were thinking the Mailbox originally but there are a lot of 'themed' restaurants there - i.e. French, Indian, Chinese and Japanese - and this would not suit the fussy eaters!

Any help would be most appreciated :)

  1. Michelles restaurant in Corporation street has a good atmosphere and has good quality foods for grandads and plain eaters in your party. They will do special family events.

It is tucked away on an out of town route, with plenty of good parking near to the door, so grandad doesnt have to walk too far.

  2. Red Peppers is more a strange fusion hybrid of French and Morroccan so I would think that it wouldnt be appropiate for you fussy eaters. Zizzi in the Mailbox is Italian and has a very user friendly pizza/pasta menu. I personally  like Chez Jules just off New St, it does very nice food there and never had any complaints and is very reasonable price wise.I find that trying to accomodate the fussy feeders will relegate you to a Pizza Hut or Old Orleans. Its for your Grandad not for them and they should just try and enjoy a new experience,

  3. I was in Birmingham last weekend and we found a fab Italian restaurant called 'Locanto Picalilli' just off St. Paul's Square.  It was lovely - there was enough on the menu to suit fussy eaters & everything else. The atmosphere was lovely and it was perfect for all ages.  Ask to be seated upstairs, as this is a better environment.

Only downside is the steep steps to the toilets - if your Grandad is good on his feet this will not be a problem.

  4. Red Peppers in the mailbox is an italian place and they do gorgeous pizza!

Edit: Ooops, maybe Ive got two places confused? Best not go with my answer than! :)

  5. San Carlo's resturant in the city centre is very good, otherwise the Mailbox have resturants to suit even fussy eaters.
