My sister-in-law is due in November, and the baby shower is 2 weeks away. I know what gifts she wants for the baby because of her registry. I'd also like to give a gift to her - Is there a good book you could recommend for a first time mom? Shes in her 30's, and a special-ed teacher as well. Anyone wish they had something right after, or before their baby was born for themselves? My boys are 5 now so I don't remember what I wanted. Thanks for any advice. :)

  1. What to Expect the First year, is a good book. I own it and almost sleep with it!

Another book that I wish I would have gotten is, a Dr. Sears book. It explains the first two years. It also shows what immunizations your baby will get and all the side effects, what to look out for. It sounds like a good book, Im going to get it this weekend.

Another thing nice would be, a nice gift card to her favorite clothing store so she can get some new clothes for her self once the baby gets here. That would be a really nice gift just for her too.

  2. My SIL gave me the book "A Child Is Born" and I thought it was fascinating! If she likes science, I think she would really like the book.

  3. What to Expect the First Year is a nice book.  It gives you  month by month information about your childs development through the first year.

  4. A special card  tellling her that you are there to help and put a babysitting I owe you  inside.May sound stupid but after loads of sleep less nights she'll thank god you gave her it.

  5. A gift I was bought when I was in hospital after having my middle son was a silk nightie. Well, i don't think it was real silk but it felt lovely, was practical for breastfeeding and was for me, rather than the baby. Maybe get her something unrelated to the baby and pregnancy as it can be easy to feel lost in the bottles, nappies, teddies and baby clothes!

Another good things to do is wait until after her baby shower and see what's left on the registry and buy a few of those things.

  6. A spa day, like a massage or a pedicure.

  7. Here's what I do when invited to a baby shower.

I bring the baby gift  and for mom..............

A new nightie !  Makes her feel like a s**y woman again.
