A good champagne for a reception

What is a good champagne to serve at a wedding reception?

Most people won't appreciate a 'good' champagne.  I'd suggest you get a bubbly white wine instead - like Asti Spumante.  At least people will drink it and you won't be pouring money down the drain, literally.

Actually Dom is about $150 and Crystal runs about $200 plus. If you aren't willing to spend this much (and who is) there are some good alternatives.  Moet can be purchased for about 60 to 80 dollars depending on location. Some other good ones are

Piper-Heidsieck-$45.00-$50.00

Perrier-Jouet-$119.00-$139.00 (For a 1998)

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin-$90.00 (I suggest this one if you want to spurge a little, but not spend over a hundred...it is very good!)

IMO skip the champagne and get a good sparkling wine instead. True champagne is expensive, coming from France and all. Moet and Cristal are both going to run you about $100 per bottle (give or take). I personally see more people buying these in my bar just to show off their money...not because they like the taste at all.

   I would rather serve my guests at my wedding something they will enjoy, as opposed to something flashy. My favorites a sparklling wine, Mondoro, running about $15 a bottle. I dont  care for Moet at all, actually spit it out once, and don't care for Cristal either. and unfortunately these are the popular ones. I would hate to see you spend tons on bottles of champagne, just to find unfinished glasses at the end of the night.  just my opinion though.

Do you have a Trader Joe's?  My friend bought champagne for $7 a bottle and it was good.  Ask the employees.  They know what is good for the money.  Taste your champagne first.  If you like it buy it.  Don't spend a bunch on champagne unless you know your guests love it.  Save the good stuff for you wedding night with your husband or a few friends who will appreciate it.  I like champagne and I just went to a fancy wedding last week.  I ended up drinking a bunch of untouched glasses on my table.  Good Luck!

Cooks Spumante $4.00 per bottle and tastes great
