  1. Some have encouraged you to blue the gun yourself.  You can do this and get a reasonable bluing job but it will not be as good as having it hot blued by a gunsmith.  All cold bluing is less durable than hot bluing.  One thing you have to ask yourself is whether your gun is worth the extra cost of having it hot blued.    Hot bluing is not cheap.  Unless it is either an expensive gun or one with special sentimental value such as a gift from a long gone relative, it is probably not worth the cost of hot bluing.  Do not reblue a gun with collector value because you will seriously reduce its value.  If it is not one of these things, I'd recommend getting a good cold bluing kit and doing it yourself.  It isn't hard and only requires a bit of care and patience and willingness to follow directions carefully.

If you still want to send it off, you can find a gunsmith who will take care of it for you (very few do it themselves) by looking in your phonebook or go to www.gunsmithlocator.com.  You could also do a Google search for "gun bluing".

  2. taking your gun somewhere to have it done will cost alot more than doing it yourself.  Doing it yourself is very easy.

i realize you didn't ask for that.. but you say you dont have the money.

Then how are you going to send it to a gunsmith if you dont have the money?

  3. Rough Idea of cost

I just paid $200 per gun to have 3 re-blued buy the manufacturer (Ithaca Gun Company).

This was done on shotguns that I can buy all day long for less than 350 each.

It is much cheaper to do it yourself. I prefer to have it done buy the manufacturer. And while its there I have them do a once over safety check.

  4. Go to any sporting goods store and get the blueing yourself. It's not as hard as you think I have done two myself and they look good as new.

  5. These are the guys I use here in California, reasonable prices and fast turn around times.
