I'm new to this whole projector business, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Alright here's my situation: I am going to build a dark(no windows) room in my basement. I need a decent projector for it.

-The projector must be HD

-Able to connect to a Wii.

-Able to connect to a sound system.

-Able to connect to a DVD player.

-Price range: $1000-$1500

Suggestions?

  1. In that price range you will only be able to go 720p and not 1080p, but that should be ok assuming you don't have Blu-Ray or HD DVD.  Nothing else is being broadcast in it.  Here are a couple of suggestions.

There a a gazillion projectors from a gazillion companies don't make your head explode comparing and comparing.  Just follow these general rules and I guarantee you'll be pleased.

    Lumen 1000 or greater

Native resolution at least 1024 X 720 to give you the 720p

Contrast as high as you can get.

I'd also recommend a DLP as opposed to an LCD due to the screen door effect but make sure the DLP pj has at least 3 color wheels.

As far as your connections go most pj's at that price range will have a limited amount of HD inputs so you will have probably have to use your receiver or a switch box to change between sources without plugging and unplugging.

  2. Personally I would suggest a Panasonic PT-AX200U. They are very versatile in that they can be shelf or ceiling mounted. Also can be setup on a table. A lens shift and 2X zoom  is available. Also has 2 HDMI connections. If you happen to get a projector with  DVD player built in, you might run into a problem if your DVD player breaks down. You would probably have to send the whole unit in for repair. Those are convenient in that it has the player built in. But also inconvenient in that you might be out of a projector if your dvd player/projector needs repair. You can learn more about projectors and read some reviews on the links below. Good luck.

  3. Even though it's not HD nor Wii, it still generates a 365 lumen 2000:1 contrast DLP movie quality image and has all the connectivity to game machines, computers, etc., look into a refurbished Infocus SP4805 for around $879  at

    Good luck!

  4. This is what I have and I am very satisfied:

Not exactly HD but it has a built in DVD Player to it, saves you the trouble of hooking up and running the wires.

  5. I think you can try Panasonic PTAX100U

..That is a nice one...I find that a decent deal for it is only $995.You can have a look:

  6. I will recommend Epsom moviemate 72. Its High Definition Projector can be connected to Wii/X-Box 360,PC/MAC and sound system. It has HDMI port too. But it gives 720P not 1080P but 1080P is not supported by Wii/Xbox 360 either.

I have Moviemate 50 I play X-Box 360 games on 120"screen its amazing. Picture quality is amazing it has built in DVD player so I use this for even movies.

But one upgrade of it that is Moviemate 72 gives true High Definition. It costs around $1000.
