Technology is my passion. I'm going to be a Senior in High School next year and I need to know what I want to do. There are so many different options. I need something that will get me into the career after 2 years of college. I love working online, and problem solving. I was think about software programmer, but I have been told it's very competitive. I wouldn't mind working with new technology, or system databases. I just need some suggestions. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!

  1. BizTalk by Microsoft. As an IT/IS recruiter there are only maybe 50 some resumes posted with significant BizTalk experience.  The cheapest person wants $75/hour.  People with 2 years experience are commanding from $125/hour to $250/hour with consulting firms.

This is a middleware product that integrates different web based applications.  And with companies merging together and having different web based applications - BizTalk seems to be the tool to solve the integration issues.

  2. Computer technology or IT careers continue to grow as long as you have enough training and certifications to remain competitive.  You will probably want to complete a 4 yr degree for future opportunities and promotability.

Hot careers include Network security- CISCO related (CCNA) - software programmers (but need to constantly stay current & keep up with the latest trends and languages).  You may consider getting some career testing from the Dept of Labor office or via your school to see if you have the mathematical and logical aptitude you need to succeed.  You may want to contact some local technology companies and ask for an informational interview from a Hiring manager in IT.   If you are in a larger city, there are Job networking or Jobseekers groups where you could make some contacts.  Another idea is via professional trade organizations in your area to make contacts and ask about local trends where you live.  Good luck!
