I have the Canon Rebel XTi (obviously), and right now I just have the lens that came with it and a macro lens I got from Amazon.

What's a good lens for it that has good quality and maybe good color and stuff that's not too expensive? I wanna ask for one for my birthday in October but I don't know what lens' are good.

  1. What lens you want depends on what you want to shoot. Since you already have macro and wide-angle covered you'll probably now want telephoto or portrait. The previously suggested 50mm f/1.8 is a great portrait lens, especially for the price.

As far as telephoto goes, if you have the money go for the Canon EF 70-300mm (about $500). Otherwise you should go for the Canon EF 100-300mm ($200 on ebay). As a last resort you could get the Canon EF 75-300mm. Only buy it used though and don't pay more than $100 for it.

  2. The next lens you want is the Telephoto lens.

With it, you can sit in a stadium, and count the beads of sweat on the quarterbacks face.

  3. What are you wanting to shoot?

A good starter, inexpensive lens to purchase next would be the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8.

The beauty of this lens is the very wide aperture, which produces very narrow depth of field. Very cool, also very useful in low light situations. The lens is a fixed length, but you get used to that.

A little plasticy, but produces beautiful results. Lots of bang for your buck!
