A good material to build a solid floor in my degu cage?

Im looking for a good material to build a solid floor in my degu cage. Right now the floor is grated and I dont think that is good for their feet. I was thiking maybe a sheet metal? Any suggestions well appreciated

Sheet metal would work very well. I'd just make sure no sharp edges are degu-accessible.

Also, I know people who have also used use kiln-dried pine boards,  and then had old t-shirts/sweaters, and/or cardboard layered on top. Which didn't last very long, since the goos would take the old t-shirts and bring them to the nest, and chew up the cardboard. xD Hah.
