  1. Which name and model is pretty much a personal thing. I'd look at at least 600 cc's to give the power I'd want to have on the hiway...it's surprising how much a headwind can slow you down.  And many's the time I've needed some extra power to squirt out of a bad situation...also a larger bike will be heavy enough to maintain it's position with less effort on your part.  Much more than 600 cc's, you start losing economy, altho my 1100 Virago gets about 45 mpg.

  2. I been gettin around 46 just fartin around on my magna

  3. Kawasaki 500 Ninja, Vulcan 500 (same engine)

    Kawasaki 650 Ninja

Kawasaki Versys, (same engine as 650 Ninja)

    Suzuki GS500S

Suzuki SV650 ("S" model comes with full fairing)

Suzuki V Strom 650 (same engine as SV650)

Yamaha FZ6, (same engine as the R6, but tuned down)

(all above bikes should get above 50 mpg)

    I own the FZ6 and I get 55 mpg

note: The Kawasaki 250 Ninja IS NOT recommended for highway-freeway riding only because the acceleration rate is too long to make it up to speed on highway entrance ramps.

yes, I understand the 250 Ninja will go above 100 mph, but it has a very slow acceleration rate and it might take 2 miles of level road to reach speeds above 100 mph.

  4. The  Suzuki S40 is cheap to buy, has decent power for interstate use and averages almost 60 mpg. Its also as reliable as an anvil. You can buy one for less than $5000 out the door. Its also cheap to insure. Its a 650cc  single cylinder, belt driven.

  5. a 250 Ninja can ride on the freeway just fine. It'll do 100MPH. and could probably get 70-80MPG

but it's not the most comfortable on the highway. if highway commuting is the main thing you're going to use it for you'd probably be better off with tone the bikes the first guy recommended

  6. for the most part all bikes get good mileage.
