I've recently had an idea about a character that i would like to make into a series of films to put on youtube. Since working with children for so long in schools, ive always wanted to come up with an idea to educate, through use of a puppet(s). I need an interesting name for a puppet/character (girl) that children would love. Has anyone got any ideas???

  1. Emily, molly, those type of names are good. you shouldnt use names like Sabrina , and tiffany lol they lose the fun but thats just my opinion.

  2. Sassafras

The sassafras tree has three different leaves. So the puppet could have three different hobbies and three different favorite colors and so on.

It would also be fun for children to say.

  3. zoey

  4. poppy.

  5. Please Use This Name   Wiggles

  6. my 6 year old said poggle..........(poggle the puppet pirate) sounds good to me

  7. I think Gabby would be a great name for a puppet that talks a lot:)

  8. Matilda,Maggie,Lucy,or Patty, how are these?

  9. Why don't you name it Goldylocks or any childhood character, so children already know her etc and maybe feel like they know her better?

  10. Polly, Matilda. when I started reading I thought of a boys name Oswald I think anything unusual will get childrens attention.

  11. There is currently another thread on Yahoo Answers asking for old-fashioned names for a girl.

Why not have a look at the answers? It has some interesting suggestions as well as useful sources.

  12. The first thing you really need to do is not come up with the name of the character, but the personality of the character.  From there, you can decide a name.

As far as my puppets go, I have several.  Note that some of these are used in comedy clubs, so don't look at it and think, "Why is he using that one with children?"

--Jazzy D. is a dog.  He wears sunglasses, has a plaid shirt, and is grumpy all the time, but also cool and very honest.  His name comes from the fact that I can picture someone with his personality thinking of himself as "cool" and what's "cooler" than Jazz?  The D. stands for "dog."

--Noodle is a high strung, 4 foot tall blue furry creature.  He laughs at everything, thinks life is just fun, and is extremely outgoing.  Why Noodle?  It's a fun food.

--Keetor is a giant beaver in a straight jacket.  He gives out love advice, but lives in a mental institution because he stalks girl beavers.  (See?  Told you not to think I use all of them in the classroom).  His name comes from the fact that he's not very smart and "eetor" is said really slowly.  As Mark Wade points out in his book "Kid's Show Ventriloquism," any word that begins with "K" is somehow funnier.  (Which is funnier?  An orange or a kumquat?)  So put the K and the eetor together and you get the unusual name of "Keetor."   It's a pretty famous last name, but sounds strange as a first name.

There are others, but I think I made my point :)  The first step is to really determine the character of your puppet.  Once I have done that, I have rarely had trouble coming up with a name.

    Matt
