A good pet bird(not a parakeet or cockatiel)?

Ok, so I have already owned parakeets and cockatiels, but I would like to try owning another type of bird. Right now I have a cage that I believe used to be used for two nanday conures, I'm looking for a bird that I can interact with, but my family might not tolerate a big screecher so it will probably stay in my room, I only have school for two hours so I can spend time with it every day. The last thing I'm worried about is price, I cant go over 400, because my my mother wouldn't allow me to 'waste' my money on a bird... So what do you suggest?

  1. My mother used to have a quaker. Very intelligent bird. Im not a bird expert but Ive been told they are smarter than parrots (and quite a bit smaller). He was a cool bird! very friendly, intelligent, talkative and not a squawker. He did not make much unnecisary noise. We were very pleased with the bird, but ended up giving him to a friend who could devote more time than we could. We were really happy with him!

  2. Zebra Finches. They aren't tame, but they're cute and AWESOMME!!

    I luv them!

  3. you can get a pair of lovebirds...

but if youre wanting one that will pay attention to you i think the cheapest is around 800 which is a young african grey..

  4. Budgies are really cute, as long as you practice on them from babies you can usually get them to talk. My dads one does although its not as clear as a parrot but you can still understand it.

  5. Not all conures are screechers.  The green cheeked conures(Pyrrhura) are not as noisy as most of the conures. I have a Pineapple conure which is a pyrrhura conure.  She is a very sweet bird, but I do have to keep her biting under control.  She likes every member of my family.  She speaks a variety of words-in a gravely voice-it's so cute.  Not all of her phrases are understandable yet, but most are.  I got her for $200, but that was a sale, she usually was $400.

I also had a Indian Ringneck.  He was such a pretty bird with a huge tail and that pretty red ring around his neck.  He loved to be around people, but didn't like to be pet as much as the conure does.  He rarely ever bit and when he did it was gentle.  He talked very well!  He was $250.  I hope this helps you in deciding.

If you really want a Grey why not look at shelters.  They will be older birds, but you will know there temperment right away.  Also they will probably be a little cheaper than buying from a breeder.  Grey's will need a lot of toys to keep them occupied while you are gone, and the bigger the bird the more food and the more messes.
