I have two young girls (one born today, sitting here in my hospital bed with my laptop.) Their names are Gia Mae and Taysen Grace.

Do you think that it would be okay for me to go visit my mother who lives in MN, while I am living in France for the time being?

Also do you like my kids names?

Gia Mae (born Today!!!!)

Taysen Grace (4)

  1. I would say no you should wait till Tia Mae is a wee bit older. They use recycled air on the planes so that would mean that for the 10 hrs or so that she'd be on the plane she'd be breathing in other people's germs. So that would mean that the whole visit with your mother she'd be sick and you'd be away from her doctor. Would it be possible for you to have your mother go to France for the visit?

  2. CONGRATS!  Now put down the lap top and A: pay attention to baby B: Take a nap C: eat some good food or D: take a shower!

I strongly recommend against going anywhere long distance, ESP overseas before the baby is 2 mos old.  In the states they recommend against taking them out too much before 1 mo, due to serious increased risk of infection, cold, flu, stuff that is just floating around.  And I think flying would be a really bad idea due to A: recycled air and B: people who are sick on board, or with serious diseases or infections who have not been vaccinated (b/c of it being an international flight), you would be putting baby in alot of risk, when she hasnt either been vaccinated yet.

Many, if not most of the vaccination we do here are entirely for childhood diseases, many of which are most common in the first year.  Babies can and do DIE from these, thats why we made vaccines.  Rubella, measles, chicken pox, diptheria, whooping cough; all these will kill a tiny baby, sorry.

Have your family come to you.

  3. I love your kids names! They're adorable! How old will your newborn be when you travel with her? From what I understand, it's typical to wait until the 2 month mark. But ask your pediatrician! He/she may have no problem with it!
