A good reason to get a fuel efficient car?

Sorry for asking this question again. I fixed it up a bit

I'm 16..

My family has a gas guzzler van I hate driving.

My parents think it would be nice for me to drive since I go a lot of places (I'm a volunteer) and don't want to drive me everywhere.

The fuel saver would replace the FAMILY car, it would NOT be mine, or under my name.

I'm not paying for it. It would NOT be my car. I'm not working at McDs so that I can work harder to drive myself places that are optional (you don't HAVE to volunteer you know). My mom will do the driving so its ok! I'll let her! :D Besides, I'm gonna go to college in 2 years and its rural so I don't care if I have a car or not. I'll get a job to get a motorcycle thats mine and not a family ride.

We pay a ton of money for gas. It would save money, as in paying 3x less at the pump (vans are gas hogs).

The car would NEVER be used for personal c**p. If it was it would be a no brainier who's paying for it + gas.

Would It be useful or am I whiner?

  1. I'm guessing that your Parents are fairly intelligent people having raised a fine Son like yourself.

so they are aware that their current vehicle burns a lot of gas but are unable or unwilling to spend the money to purchase a newer more efficient one.

you can find with a lot of looking and some luck a used car

from 1998 for around $4,000. but then add the cost of tax lic and registration.

new cars like the Honda Fit are at least $15,875.

  2. If you can hold your breath for 2 years, you and your folks can both relax.  Maybe they like their van  Maybe you'll enjoy your motorcycle.  Maybe you are right  Maybe your Mom should make these decisions and you should wait until she asks your opinion.  But in the meantime you can be right if you want

  3. Install a converter in the car to 2x your mpg. se my sig for more info...

  4. One huge question: Is the van paid off?

If it is, there is no point in getting another vehicle when it would take years to offset the cost of gas vs paying for a new/used vehicle.
