Question:

A good website on camping?

My husband and I are going out camping for the first time. The place seems quite nice with toilets and showers. We've got the tent, sleeping bags and what else?

Is there a "camping check list"?

Which is the best website for camping?

  1. That's about it. Unless you want to cook.

Maybe get some sleep mats (foam or inflatable). They will help keep you warm and comfortable.

Edit: Blimey! To me, camping is about minimalism. Some of the suggestions here look like you'd need a trailer to get the stuff there! What's the point! Book into a hotel if you are that fussed.

  3. The Coleman website always has good resources when camping.

They have a nice, printable, checklist you can use.

They also have a lot of the camping destinations in the US mapped out and user generated content for some.

  4. We went camping this last weekend heres what we took (One night out):

    Tent

    Sleeping Bags/Pillows

    Extra Clothes

    Bug Repellent

    Food - Hamburger/Potatoes/Corn - plus fixings - lettuce/hamburger buns/mayo/ketchup/butter/seasoning mix

    Bacon and potoatoes for breakfast

    Water/Ice to drink

Matches to light a fire with - burned what was available at the camp site (we camped in the mountains plenty of downed trees)

Dutch oven to cook in and tin foil to cook potatoes and corn

    Silverware, plates, and paper towels

    Hershey's Bars/Marshmellows/Graham Crackers for smores

koa has a very detailed list - edit to your needs - what you plan on doing and how long you plan on staying:

  5. If you google "first time camping" there is a site that will come up that is called "camping for beginners" you will find lots of useful info there.

    Chairs

    Table

    Rollmat (self inflating ones)

Sleeping bag (make sure you get a decent one which fits you well, look at the label for temperature range)

    Camp bed

    Pillows

    Cooker

    Gas bottles

    Utensils (knives, forks, plates etc.)

    Thermal cup

    kettle

    Cool bag

    Lamp

Torch (for those trips to the loo in the dark!)

    batteries for above

    Radio

    Baby wipes

    Hand sanitiser

    Food

    Toiletries.

    Matches/Lighter

    Towels

    Hope this helps you out!
