A good win by Ogilvy or another Vijay giveaway?

Great Monday finish at Doral. Great tournament overall.

I can't help but wonder about today's round (half-round for the final group). Did Ogilvy win this one or did Vijay give another one away?

Ogilvy didn't make one birdie, but didn't make bogeys either. However, I think Vijay should have taken this, just as he should have won Pebble and Bay Hill.

Vijay went super aggressive on 11 and 12. He hit driver off the deck on 12 and couldn't make birdie on either holes. Then he bogeys the next two, messing up simple chip shots. Vijay seems to make bad bogeys in bunches and that sinks him in the end, e.g. Pebble, Bay Hill, Doral.

If Vijay can avoid the untimely, middle of the round, back-to-back bogeys, he could really win some big events.

  1. Vijay already has won plenty of events. He has 31 PGA Tour victories, 55 worldwide victories and 3 majors (2 PGAs and a Masters). But he's getting older. At age 45, he likely doesn't have too much more in the tank.

I think Vijay will win the Masters again before his career is over. Perhaps this year.

All that said, Ogilvy won that tournament with solid putting from start to finish.

  2. A good win by Ogilvy.  Vijay didn't have the lead to give it away.  He didn't take advantage of opportunities he made for himself.  Ogilvy lead after the 2nd and 3rd rounds and didn't make any mistakes, thus earning his victory.

  3. Ogilvy is a very under-rated player. He smoked everyone at the WGC in Arizona few years back, and could have done so more often had he not chosen to spend some time with his new family instead.

He lead this tourney after 36 and 54 holes, so how can it have ever been Vijays to give away? If anyone else had a real shot it was maybe Adam Scott, and only maybe at that.

  4. Great Aussie win......hes a very underrated player who will continue to win this year.....and it looks like VJ will also be in contention this year a lot if he can get his putting under control...hes def struggling with that.

Btw, Tiger did not win at Augusta last year ...... so much for your 'challenge' comment

  5. Everyone throws away a shot or two during a 72 hole stroke play event.  Ogilview threw away fewer shots than everyone else and deserves the win.
