A gritty Daren Liew aims to break into top-20 bracket in world rankings – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles in-form shuttler Daren Liew, who has delivered spectacular performance in the recent events, aims to go for bigger goal and wants to break into top-20 bracket in the world rankings.
Daren, who was ranked at number 43 just one month ago, has climbed up 15 places and is currently placed at number 28 in Men’s Singles world standings.
With this elevated world ranking, Daren has become the second best shuttler in Malaysia after Lee Chong Wei who is the ruling World Number One.
In the past few years, Daren has been struggling hard to make his presence felt to the world but he failed to establish his name at international level.
However, he did not give up at any stage and remained working hard and has finally found elevated results.
He reached into the quarter-final stage in two back-to-back championships including All England Open 2012 and Swiss Open 2012.
Daren’s impressive performance has boosted his confidence and now his next aim is to reach in the top-20 bracket in the world.
While talking about his higher world ranking, Daren said that he was not expecting it in such a small period of time.
He said, “I honestly did not expect to climb the rankings so fast ... it’s really a nice surprise. I’m really glad to have been give the break in Birmingham and the Swiss meet because that has boosted my confidence significantly.”
He further added, “I now believe that I can do even better and my next target will be to break into the top 20. But, for that to happen, I need to work harder and achieve even better results in tournaments.”
Daren has found a good rhythm at the right time and is determined to work extra hard to go to further heights. He is now second seed in Malaysia and is looking forward to maintain his positive and winning run in the upcoming tournaments.
The Malaysian is a new hope for the country in Men’s Singles category as he, by maintaining his current form, is expected to become a true successor of Chong Wei.
