you agree?

I'm in Texas and recently a bus with Vietnamese were traveling to a church. The bus crashed and unfortunately several were killed. It's very sad and my friend said too bad it wasn't a bus full of hardened criminals. What do you think?

  1. What they should do is to send them to war. They like guns let them do what they're best at.

  2. What about the ones in prison who are innocent?  There are many innocent people serving years in prison, even on death row.  Look at this case...http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/01/2...

  3. That's kind of a general statement, but in principle I agree with your friend.  First, these hardened criminals commit their crime (bad enough).  Then, we throw them in jail at $60,000 a year.  It just doesn't make sense.

I do not support any punishment or prison time for victimless crimes such as drugs, prostitution, gambling, etc.  No victim = no crime.

  4. Your friend has a very simplistic view.  He has learned this view from people who like to answer complicated questions with simple answers, as many politicians and spiritual leaders do.

Truly 'hardened criminals' are not that common.  Most criminals can be rehabilitated cheaper than they can be warehoused in prison forever.  Capital punishment, as much as it might satisfy your friend and make him happy, has never been shown to work.  It doesn't act as a deterrent to crime, and it costs MUCH more to execute a criminal than to keep him in prison for life without parole.

We have tried to solve the problem of crime in the way that is simplest to explain and the best for politicians to campaign on.  We simply make more and more things illegal, double sentences for every crime, and then double them again.  As a result, we have more people in prison than any other country in the world and we can't build prisons fast enough.  Look at it this way:  If you could make the streets safer by locking more people up, we would have the safest streets in the world!

But if any politician even begins to suggest that this method isn't working he's immediately pounced upon by his competition as being 'soft on crime'.  So politicians try to outdo each other in being 'tough on crime'.  Even though they know that just locking people up forever doesn't work.  The problem is more complicated than that, and certainly more complicated than just shooting criminals and throwing them in a hole, as nice and neat and simple as that sounds.

  5. i think that God will take of the bad people in this world, so i do not wish anyone death....however i do wish for all the  people that harm children sexually, rapists and the hardened criminals that kill others to be shipped to a far away island and let them fend for themselves....
