My hamster is very healthy, she eats normal and all, and she does not seem to have anything wrong with her, but she does not seem to be drinking her water. I always change her water like every other day, filling it all the way up. I've never seen her drink it though. To test it, I left her water bottle in the cage for like 3 days, and it still had the same amount of water as the first day.

  1. it may not know how to drink the water. You want to show her how water can come out.

  2. Hamsters are one of such creatures which can live long without drinking water, eg, not drinking water for 1 day...but I wouldn't recommend that..lol

Yes, they do drink less amount of water, and since they are nocturnal, they do stay active during the nights...so, perhaps that is when she drinks.

When you observe a hamster drinking from its bottle, you can see tiny bubbles going up...which means, very small amount of water is reaching them, and they do drink until they are satisfied.

If your hamster didn't drink for 3 whole days, I doubt she would be alive...so, she is drinking alright, but perhaps she is indeed drinking less water, which is also not good.

So, I suggest you give her some small pieces of cucumber, which would prevent dehydration...then make sure you are giving her mineral or boiled water (not the ones from the tap) and do not wash the bottle with soap.

If this problem still persists, I advice you to take her to a vet to get her checked if there is any internal sickness.

I wish you and your hammy all the very best.

PS: Sometimes Kidney Failure can also cause this

  3. hamsters usually are most active at night so maybe you're missing her drinking. but you said the water had the same amount in it as the first day? maybe shes drinking very little . try making some water come out of the bottle while she's awake and can see. but i wouldn't worry too much, when she's thirsty, she'll drink.

  4. She should be drinking, when mine drink I can hear it from across the room, and they are dwarf hamsters....

She may have a bladder or kidney infection...

Never give your animals tap water, always use purified or spring....

Tap water has so many chemicals in it, that alone could cause illness or death.

The pet stores and vets also recommend purified, or spring...

  5. mey b she doesnt lyk u waching her drink

  6. If your hamster is anything like mine, they're very small creatures.  Unless you're watching them 24 hours a day more than likely she is drinking, but it's not going to appear like she's drinking a ton because she's so small.  Also hamsters are originally from the desert so they are used to not drinking a lot of water so will often only drink once every couple days.  If you leave it in there for longer periods of time I'm sure she'll drink some of it.  I usually only change their water when I notice it's going down some.

  7. Well if you have been giving her lots of fruits and veggies they get lots of water from them so that could be it also if she doesn't drink I wouldn't worry unless it's like a week then take her to they vet but I think she gets lots of water from her food. Just cut back on them and she should start drinking but if not take her to the vet.

  8. If she is still alive she is drinking. She wouldn't be able to survive on no water. She just drinks a smaller amount than you do. Keep changing it and make sure you don't clean it with soap so she will want to drink it. She is fine no doubt!

  9. a hamster metabolism is fast it need water it cant survive long without water, what do u feed him if u feed a hamster lettuce, or other food whit water they get enough water from that so they dont need real water.

  10. hamsters came from the desert before all time so it is normal for you not to see them drinking also they are noctournal so you also might not see your hamster drinking. it took my hamster awhile before he started drinknign so give it time also make shure your hamster can reach the water bottle if not get a small dish from the pet store and ask them about how much water to put int he dish. hamsters drown very easily so be carful.

    Good luck,   Tiana xoxo,
