A hire safe?

Could anybody help to answer what "a hire safe" is in a hotel? Context:

The apartment hotel comprises a lobby, a hire safe, a café and a TV room.

143 bedrooms offer stylish furnishing and décor with en suite bathroom, hairdryer, telephone, television with satellite, mini bar, air conditioning, trouser press and ironing facilities and hire safe.

  1. This is a built in safe in your hotel room, normally incorporated in the wardrobe, you have to pay a fee to have the key or combination number to use it. Most hotels these days offer this service for free, but obviously this one doesn't. It is probably a nominal fee per week and would be worthwhile for your passports, money, jewellery etc. Beware if it is a key operated safe, if you lose the key the hotel will charge a very hefty fee because they will have to replace the key.

    Look at the safe when you get to your room, if it's a combination number type I suggest you use numbers that you remember easily i.e. your birth year again if you forget the number the hotel will charge you for opening it to retrieve your possessions.
