A homemade solution to set color in a garment?

I have a black sweatshirt that I am going to be adding crochet to. I want to set the color in the sweatshirt before i start. Is there a homemade solution to use that will set the color? Thanks!!

try rinsing it out in vinegar

Hot water and half cup of table salt. Run it in the wash machine just like you would wash clothes. If it a big sweet shirt use a whole cup of salt. double rinse cold water.
