  1. Skipping is not a gait.  Skipping is NOT a gait that can be trained in dressage or out!  The closest you can come to skipping is tempi changes in canter in which the horse changes leads every pre-determined number of strides, which can sometimes LOOK like skipping, but is not!

Those who do not know about dressage should not try to talk about it as if they do know because they are misinforming people and spreading the misinformation!

  2. This sounds very familiar to one of the questions asked in the Level 1 rider test on Howrse.  Skip is NOT a gait.

  3. A gait is not when  it trotting or any of that . A gait is when your horse picks its feet up high but not like other horses a gaited horse should be a lot smoother of a  ride too. A good gaited horse is trained to be in a gait all the time like that is all it knows . But if it looked like of those, it would be closer to a trot.

  4. Skipping is not a gait.

  5. in dressage but it has to be trained.

a horses natural born gaits are  walk, trot, canter, gallop,

those are the gaits that arnt trained and are natural.

  6. there is not such thing as skipping... the other three are gaits

  7. Well, if you asked my Racking horse, he might tell you skipping is a gait. Bwhahaha. He'll try to canter in front and trot in back when he's being contrary (vallhop) and it feels like he's skipping.

To answer your question, no, skipping is not a gait. Walk, trot, canter, gallop are the primary gaits.

Horses bred for intermediate gaits, like the TWH, RMH, MFT, PF, PP, etc., can do a lot of different things that have a lot of different names like running walk, amble, pace, fox trot, rack, tolt...the list goes on and on.

  8. skipping is not a gait the horses three natural gaits are a walk, trot, and lope (canter)
