She is out of work and can't even get food stamps because she needs some type of photo ID. She went to the DMV to try and get a State ID but she still needs some type of ID just to get that. What would you guys suggest? That fire destroyed everything, she is in dire need. Where can she go to get help?

  1. contact the hospital where she was born and try to get her birth certificate compied

  2. contact the salvation army and/or red cross they can help and have expereince in these things

  3. I'm sorry for your friend's loss.  To begin, she can get a copy of her birth certificate from the Town Hall where she was born.  If this is not the correct place in her case, they can refer her on to the right one.  After that, she has I.D. and can get copies of the rest of her documents.

  4. The first thing she needs is to get a copy or her birth certificate- call any government office in the phone book and they will tell you where you need to go to get the copy mad-It's done by computer and only takes minutes. call the ssi office and they can send a copy of the ssi number to your friend.

Armed with the birth certificate she should be able to get the photo and drivers license from the state and that should get her the id she needs for the food stamps

  5. She might can go to the hospital where she was born to get a new birth certificate.

I don't know if that will require ID too.

  6. First off, she needs to get a copy of her birth certificate.  In most states that runs between 10 and 30 dollars.  If she cannot get help through the state, she can approach other charities such as United Way or local churches.  That may also be a resource for food, shelter, clothing, bedding,  furniture, etc. until she has her I.D. in order.  Without the birth certificate, she won't be able to get duplicates of the other things.  Be sure and tell your friend that as soon as she has replaced her I.D. to go to the courthouse and ask the clerk to make certified (notarized) copies for her, and tell her to keep those duplicates in a safe place where she doesn't live, in the event of theft, another fire (heaven forbid) or other loss.

There are few things more devastating than a fire.  You can also find out if a local charitable organization would be willing to hold a benefit for her, like a spaghetti dinner, to help with the expenses of starting over.

I wish her the best of luck.

  7. Get in contact with her birth hospital...her fingerprints may be all she needs to prove who she is to get her Birth Certificate.

  8. Police and tell them what happened and they'll try to help. Good Luck For your friend :]

  9. Start by getting a social security card.  This can be done over the phone.  They will ask personal questions to prove it is really her.

  10. the government website will have forms to get all of these things remade for her. they will usually charge though

  11. has she talked to her home owners insurance comp? they can tell her what to do and how to do it.
