A huge leap for Edvald Boasson Hagen at the UCI World Tour rankings
Edvald Boasson Hagen’s victory at the Gp Ouest-France Plouay enables him to jump 19 positions up the UCI World Tour Individual Rankings.
He took a total time of 5 hours, 55 minutes and 28 seconds to defeat Team Movistar cyclist Rui Alberto Faria Da Costa with a margin of 5 seconds at the end of the race.
Heinrich Haussler of Team Garmin-Sharp, Matthew Harley Goss of Team Orica-GreenEdge and Jurgen Roelandts of Team Lotto Belisol occupied the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Boasson’s previous victories of the season include the first place finish at the National Road Race Championships and an overall victory at the Glava Tour of Norway.
Team Sky cyclist also bagged stages at the Criterium du Dauphine, Tirreno-Adriatico and the Glava Tour of Norway 2012.
Hagen’s Sports Director Sean Yates appreciated his performance at the French race and noted that crossing and defeating Rui Costa seemed impossible but Edvald made it happen.
"It was a really impressive win from Eddy," said Sean Yates.
"He bridged out of the group across to Rui Costa and went straight past him. He was unstoppable!
"It was a hard race in the latter stages and that meant there was no one dominant team. It was every man for himself”.
“I told the guys 'if you feel good don't be scared to have a go and don't let the race slip away.' No one was capable of controlling moves or bringing them back”.
“Eddy took his chance and reaped the benefits."
The 25-year-old is the third cyclist from the British team in the top 11 after the latest UCI World Tour Individual rankings.
Bradley Wiggins is leading the category with the maximum number of 601 UCI points and is accompanied by Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver of Team Katusha at the second position with 414 points.
Tom Boonen of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep is further 4 points behind at the third position with Vincenzo Nibali and Peter Sagan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale occupying the fourth and the fifth positions with 400 and 351 points respectively.
Christopher Froome is the second Team Sky cyclist at the seventh spot with 266 points in his bag while his team-mate Edvald Boasson Hagen holds the 11th position with 211 UCI points in his back pocket.
