It's great that you want to join an organisation such as AI. Practically, there are no strict requirements. You can always participate in the activities at your local office of AI. You can volunteer and inquire about membership or maybe just a publication that will tell you more on it here:

You should be able to find a list of AI branches worldwide.  

Remember, if there isn't one near where you live, you can help start a new one, if you're dedicated and determined to do it.

The main requirement is to have concerns about human rights issues anywhere, about anyone in particular or a group of individuals. That is your best recommendation.

A close friend of mine has been working with AI for some time and has now been able to say that he managed to change the lives of at least some people for the better.
