How do they get the meat? They can’t go out hunting: they are trees. They can’t send out for steaks either.

  1. A coniferous tree is NOT an evergreen. They are exact opposites, coniferous trees lose there leaves in winter and evergreens do not. Pine trees are evergreens.

The kid at school was telling you something that's not true, for some reason.

  2. No, pine trees do not eat meat. Just elementary kids and my little dogs

  3. coniferous (and no they aren't omnivorous either)

  4. Har-dee-har, but I am not sure if the joke is on you or you are the joker.

What he said was "Pine trees are coniferous".

(But you have to watch out for those hickory trees -- they'll bite your toes off)

  5. Only the Triffid Pine is considered  truly carnivorous - or maybe I'm just wyndham you up...

  6. That's funny but totally untrue.

Your friend may be mistaking the fact that insects get trapped in the thick sticky sap that pine trees exude. But to be carnivorous they would have to have a way to absorb the nutrients that the bugs have.  That does not happen.

For more cool stuff on insects trapped in various things google fossils and amber.  OOps I guess that you could yahoo those words too.

  7. the word is CONIFER

  8. how old are you? come on, how would they eat the meat if they some how got? it the only way they would kill anything is if a branch fell off and killed a squirrel

  9. He probably said coniferous which are cone bearing woody plants.

There are plants that live in bogs and swamps which dissolve bugs to get enough nutrients because the pH of their environments prevent a lot of nutrients from being absorbed by their roots but pine trees aren't one of them. Pitcher plants and venus fly traps are though.

  10. Perhaps he meant a pine marten! They are carnivorous.

    Have a look here

  11. world and all its contents: "A coniferous tree is NOT an evergreen. They are exact opposites, coniferous trees lose there leaves in winter and evergreens do not. Pine trees are evergreens.

There is not a single right about your answer. First off coniferous trees are cone bearing trees. Many of these trees do keep their foliage through the winter (ex. pines, balsam, spruce) and hence have the lay-mans term evergreens (so they are not opposites). Not all coniferous trees are evergreens though such as tamarack. Evergreen is a very general term to apply to trees though as many deciduous trees in tropical regions are also evergreen.

The only thing right about your answer was that the kid at school was wrong.

  12. Omnivorous. They can take it or leave it.

btw Kid is a small goat. Is your friend similar?

  13. It is not true, the kids are just messing with you.

I got told the same thing once.

  14. Much like the Venus Fly Trap plant is with flys the pine tree is with birds. Its sap is soooo sticky they land inside and never get out.

According to Cliff Clavin (of the TV show CHEERS) its a well known fact.

  15. Yes, one ate my dog

  16. Coniferous

  17. There is one born every minute isn't there? There are carnivorous plants but pines are not included.

  18. Why dont you go stand under one and find out, im sure if its carnivorous it will eat you.....

THATS THE MOST REDICULOUS THING IVE EVER HEARD!!!!! no trees are not carnivorous.

  19. No, its not, but its true that the kid doesnt know what hes talking about!!!

  20. I'm pretty sure your friend means "coniferous".  A coniferous tree is an "evergreen", a tree that does not have leaves like a regular tree and instead has needles or cones.

I promise you, trees cannot eat flesh, contrary to what bad horror movies would have you believe.

  21. He's right. Each pine tree is carnivorous. Most people are not aware of this. They become carnivorous when they measure over 12 feet.To find out if it is or not you must borrow Dad's ladder and climb to the top of the tree. There you will find a pack of baloney or mock chicken depending on how many birds have been swallowed by the top branch. Look carefully, the packaging could be green and hard to see.
