  1. Half of the Uk claims to have royal blood. It doesn't mean anything. Tell her to shut her face because even if she were in Ireland they would tell her the same thing. My name means "gift from God" but I don't go around throwing that in people's faces.

  2. Yeah, it's quite possible but not quite as high ranking as your friend believes,  because Donovan, in the Gaelic, means 'brown haired chieftan'. And a chieftan led a small clan. There were literally dozens of chieftans in Ireland, but they never really got it all together and proclaimed a genuine king - at least not for more than a thousand years.

  3. everyone in Ireland is descended from royalty...

  4. I have a surname which indicates royal blood in France. I would never consider telling the French. They cut the heads off their royals, so I would rather be a commoner.

  5. Royal blood to me, denotes "bloody rulers".  We Irish leave that kind of misguided wistfulness to the rot that passes for "royalty".in our snob conscious neighbours.

DNA is presumed now-a-days  to give trace probability of antecedence.

    Enjoy your nuts.

  6. It's certainly possible, though you can't really tell by the last name.  The last independent (non-British) High King of Ireland was Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair (Rory O'Connor) in the 1100s.  However, Ireland never truly unified under a single King like Great Britain did, and there were about a dozen or so different Kingdoms on the island, the last of them coming under British rule in 1603 with the surrender of Hugh O'Neill.  It's likely that, with the multitude of royal families on the island, descent from one or another of them is quite common.

  7. Possible that she had ancestors who were Irish royalty. However as said the last high king of Ireland was in the 11 century , by that even though your friend might be distantly related to past royals of Ireland. I wouldn’t call her a royal or royal blood. And I doubt anyone would even recognize her as being one. Lets face it trace your roots back far enough almost everyone will find someone famous they are distantly related too.
