I have been with my boyfriend for almost 6 years. He talks about us getting engaged all the time to the point where our wedding is pretty much planned, all we are waiting on is getting engaged. I am just wondering why it hasn't happened yet? Any ideas?

  1. I am sooo with you here. My partner and I just got engaged after only 3 years but we've lived together, travelled the world, etc so those three years have been a mini-lifetime. What made him ask, you may be wondering? Four months after I fell pregnant, he decided it was the right time! (although he did ask my family a couple of months before that)

The thing I think that could be delaying him is the ring. My partner proposed without a ring - that was a month ago. We've gone down the path of buying the diamond, getting a designer and having it made. This process can take upto a million years. I imagine if you've spoken about getting married, he might me at the stage of working the ring out. (even getting one already made is difficult enough!!)

    Best wishes!!

  2. So why haven't you asked him to marry you?

    :)

    Buy him a ring!

  3. well the best person to answer u this question will be ur beau. there cud be many reasons. maybe he's planning u a surprise, no engagement straight wedding. its possible or like our other members said, waiting for the rite time and place and rite stone to fit ur finger. but there cud be another possibility, that he's not actually ready yet. maybe not financially or even emotinally. so give him time to work it out. or u cud simply ask him directly why is he taking so long to get engaged with you. assure him that u two are in this together and if he shud have any doubt or need any help, that u're there for him. maybe tis will take him to make the move

  4. Oh my gosh just ask his best friend!  You might not get any info...at all...but at least you can get the message to your guy without embarrassing him.

You need to let his buddy know that IT'S TIME!  Make sure he passes it along that a fancy piece of jewelry doesn't matter to you.

Also try this one...when I wanted to get my boyfriend to propose I started talking about how I wasn't the kind of girl who was afraid to be the one to propose.  I didn't go tell him that I was going to propose to him...it was more of a woman's lib kind of conversation.  That got him going.  He told me later that he would have never forgiven himself if he was so chicken that I had to do it first.

  5. I think it has to do with finding the perfect time and place to propose. It takes a lot of planning and courage to create that perfect moment. My husband and I dated for 8 years before we got engaged and the last year we talked about the wedding even picked out the ring together but I was still totally surprised when he finally proposed. I didn't have a clue and it was perfect. Worth the wait!

  6. The only way to know is to casually mention a time frame to him. Next time the subject comes up, ask him when he thinks a good time to move ahead might be. Choose your words so you don't freak him out, or make him feel like you're pushing him. Just try to make it sound like you are casually wondering what his thoughts are.
