A legal matter... notarized custody paper.

I want to know how I get a document notarized for custody of my son. I'm pretty sure I can get it notarized at my bank, but I don't know how to find the paperwork. There is no father involved, so that is not a concern.... I just want to get something in writing and legal in case something happens to me.

  1. you baby i hope have a name; if not you must give yours. that is no other papers as long you have the berth certificat of the baby.

  2. Your bank can have the documents notarized - such as a WILL. You can buy a WILL at the stationery store very cheap. Just make sure you have at least two witnesses with you when you get it notarized.

  3. It's best to find a notary public to handle this. It also might be a good idea to consult an attorney too.

  4. If there is no father then why do you need to get something notarized for custody?  I assume the birth certificate is blank for father?  Or can I assume you don't know who the father is?

Anyways, getting something notorized just means that a licensed notary witnesses the signing of said document.  So whatever document you need notorized just take it in and they will witness you signing it.  You have to have proper ID of course to prove who you are.  So there is no "paperwork" that you need to find other than the document that needs to be notarized.

  5. Kinkos, post office, some car dealers also have notary services.  Not sure of the cost but those places deal with documents every day that need notary services.  A notary will know what to put and where to put the stamp.

  6. Well..I think you can fill out a Power of Attorney for custody of your son.  I recommend you also consult your state statutes/laws or/and an attorney for peace of mind. Then, get to POW notarized.

  7. What you are describing is naming somebody to be guardian of your children after you die.  It is typically done in a person's last will and testament.

I do not advise people to write holographic wills.  It is best that you meet with an attorney to have the documents prepared.
