A legitimate, no-scam way to supplement income online?

Question

I just can't believe there are NO legitimate ways of earning money online. I have a degree in English, and recently "retired" from a position that I held for 14 years. I have been employed as a journalist for an international magazine, as director of public relations for an energy company, and as a copywriter for an advertising agency. I have a lot of writing/editing experience, but I am 58 years old, and my husband thinks it's time. He likes me at home. But, I'm restless, and yes, we could use the money. The loss of my income is defintely being felt. ( If you're going to suggest that I shouldn't have retired, that's why I put the word in quotes. My boss died, and the business was closed two months later, so it was not really a choice.)

If you've been searching for the perfect business... and spending too much money for too little return... and wasting your time instead of making progress... then you owe it to yourself to see the business that many found... the one I am succeeding at... the perfect business!

I know it sucks but it's true. The only thing I can recommend is buying and selling on eBay, you can get a lot in bulk and resell. Since you have the time of being home all the time it's worth it. I did it for 2 years and it worked out well.

Start your own ebay biz

Sell on craigslist

Teach others how to use computers (various software programs)- their cellphones (calendars, settings, ringtones)  - how to effectively use the internet, how to ebay/craigslist, how to build a myspace page. Their are plenty of adults over 30 that feel intimidated by these things and would hire a professional to teach them privately - similar to piano lessons...

Writing gigs are listed on Craigslist....

Or consider ghost writing. With scrapbooking being very popular you could start a home biz - turning their memories into personal books - the story of their lives.....

Otherwise - most online gigs are scams - they are just a circle of selling. You buy this to sell that, only to be told you need this to sell that, etc..

Good Post!  I love everything about business, escpecially the marketing and advertising parts.  These things make or break a business.  I've found many ways to advertise my business that might help you.  If you have a website, try SEO and PPC (pay per click from Google Adwords).

If you advertise your business offline, try handing out flyers, printing coupons, and yellowpage advertising).

The best method I've found yet is to buy business cards and hand them out everwhere.  I buy them from a place online that gives the cards for free and only charges for shipping and handling.  I hand these out to everyone I meet, and I leave them on cars where ever I go (I also got a free business card holder that looks really impressive)!
