A lengthy rehabilitation programme awaits Mashrafe Mortaza
The Bangladesh fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Bin-Mortaza-c75000 might not be able to come to the cricket grounds before October this year. He is undergoing a lengthy rehabilitation programme after having a surgery on his right knee earlier this month.
The 27-year-old Jessore pacer had injured his knee during a domestic match in December last year. The injury forced him to miss the recently concluded http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011 as well.
He underwent a successful knee surgery by an Australian orthopaedic surgeon, Dr http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-John-Young-c53000, in Melbourne two weeks ago.
Talking to the media reporters on Saturday, Mortaza said that his operated knee is pretty fine, without any swelling on it, adding that he can even walk with the support of a crutch. The 27-year-old right arm medium pacer said that
he is well on the way to rehabilitation.
"I'm now fine. Dr http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 with the improvement and what he told me is that he will be surprised if I miss the Pakistan series in December this year," said Mortaza, while talking to a leading
sports daily.
The Jessore pacer made his international debut in November 2001 with a Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 at Dhaka. So far, he has played 36 Tests, 120 One Day Internationals and 13 Twenty20 Internationals picking up 78 Test, 151 ODI and
10 T20 wickets.
When asked, when will he be making a comeback to the cricket, Mortaza said that it is too early to say anything about when.
However, he disclosed that it would be a lengthy rehab programme and the series he can target this year is the one against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in December this year.
"Generally it needs four weeks from the operation to start the rehabilitation. If everything goes well, it will be possible to start bowling from October, so I'm hopeful that I can gain full fitness before the Pakistan series," said
