i enjoy biology and would like to take it as an As/A level....

but i'm slightly worried that my grades from year 11 aren't good enough.

for - practical i got-A*

- edex.dev. i got 2 A's and a D.

- and for additional science i got 3 B's, 2 C's and a D.

i didn't really work hard in science gcse..so i'm thinking maybe i could just make sure i revise more for the A level and stuff...but yeah what do you think?

  1. no chance sorry

  2. I think they would be good enough, as long as you did the higher paper at GCSE, otherwise you'd have a bit of catching up to do at A Level. They can be pretty full on though, so make sure you keep on top of everything.

Have a word with your AS Biology teachers or your head of sixth form and see if they have any good advise or if they can give you an idea of what the A Level involves. They may be able to give you a book list so you can get some from the library and have a look through them before you commit yourself.

Also you could enrol at your local college to do them instead, it's much better than school, plus you'll get in no problem. They take on everyone unless they've just got millions of applicants. As long as you're capable you'll get on. You have lots above a C so no worries.

    Good Luck

  3. It's really varied..what were your overall grades for Science and Add. Science?

Check with your college.. do you have enrolment or something coming up in the next couple of weeks? That's your chance to confirm your courses and check details like these.

    Good luck

  4. If it's the matter of you not working hard enough, then yeah you can definitely take Biology A level. It's easy to s***w up your grades, and it's easy to get A*s in certain subjects if you just learn all your stuff.

I found biology the easiest of the sciences [in GCSE] because alot of it was just remembering alot of labels/ words/ processes. I don't know what Biology A level is like but getting poor grades does not determine your full potential. Just putting time into a subject can make it alot eaiser.

  5. Your grades are vary varied, from great grades to not so good ones. which demonstrates you have the potential to do well but sometimes you don't out of laziness (as you said). I took biology for a level aswell as chem and physics finishing this year. The truth is biology is a lot of hard work, a lot more than the other sciences, because you have to learn such a vast amount of details and if you dont word the details in the exact way they expect you too (which changes each year) you dont get the marks.

So if you can make yourself work hard and spend extra time to get all the details learnt for two years straight then im sure you have the capability to do it. But if you'd rather just sit there in lessons and then go home and switch off then maybe chemistry or physics would be better suited. Its a harsh a level and theres a big grade difference between those who really throw themselves at the course and those who go to the lessons and learn as you would another subject.

If your aiming for a career as a doctor or something then you will need biology and chemistry and you will need A's. Its a tough path :/
