- People will be starting (college/sixth form) next week and yet I remain ''sixthformless''.

- My GCSE results included 6 & 1/2 A*-C but with a 'D' on maths- meaning to study A levels,i would need to also retake maths at the same time.

- I have a ''late interview'' & ''Enrollment'' at some college tommorow which do retakes as well as A levels. In this hope i want to study Biology,Chemistry, sociology but Philosophy too(which i achieved A*,but the college does not do),someone please explain how Studying 3 subjects & retake at one college would work with philosophy at another college while all fitting into one timetable.?...I am as confused as a peepot..=(

  1. The course adviser will make it clear to you.

Having just finished my a-levels I can tell you, its quite simple.

You have a D in maths. You have to get a C to study A-levels, but that's ok, you can still study them and retake at the same time. You will either sit in on the GCSE classes or receive a bit of one to one or be expected to get yourself a tutor an pay £25 to resit the exam in either November or June.

As for your other 3 A-levels, you will typically have two, 3 hour lessons each week for each subject split over different days.

Sixth-forms are different from colleges as they are part of a collaborative institution, i.e. if the college does not offer philosophy, you can probably do it somewhere else at an 'away' school - but your results and feedback will all come from your 'home' school, which is where you do most of your subjects.

Provided the 'away' subject does not clash with any others you will use your lunch time to 'travel' between centres to get to your other lesson.

It all works together quite well.

The typical boards are edexcel, aqa and ocr. Go to their websites, the final timetables for all the January sitting modules for 2009 have been released and are available as well as provisional timetables for the June 2009 sitting.

Taking the initiative to look at these timetables, allows you to plan your own exam timetable well before the school gives you the dates at the very last minute. That way you can prioritize your revision.

    Good Luck.

  2. I think it's possible to do Philosophy at a different college

But if it doesn't fit into the timetable of the first college, then you won't be able to

It's too early for you to know for sure until the timetables are released.

Don't worry if you don't fit in all the subjects you want to do, you could do them next year or later in life
