Question:

A level textiles or anything textiles based! please answer!!?

I am starting a levels textiles and I have never done textiles at school. So I guess i'm going to be behind.

Can anyone give me some pointers because it would really be appreciated....

Hey there, well the first thing you can do is to see if any of your family/friends has a sewing machine which you can get to grips with using because this is very important when making an item. even if you just learn how to thread the machine and practice a few hems (you can find patterns and inspiration from library books).

    also, you have to get into the frame of mind of not always designing clothes that you would wear because this will limit your ideas. you have to be able to recognise a trend and design an innovative new garment which incorporates it- however strange it may look to you!

    you could additionally go on the aqa website (www.aqa.org.uk) and download some past gcse papers and the mark schemes. pay specific attention to the questions where you have to design something for a particular group of people and have a go yourself. this will also allow you to see what you've missed out on.
