It would be difficult to change as it would require getting another wire from the light to the switch (the nuetral comes up through the switch).

  1. no from what you have said i would say no. The way light fixtures are made you need to switch the hot wire, will it work, yes with probably no problems ,is it correct no

  2. No, switching from the neutral is not acceptable.

In order to work, the light has to have a neutral and a hot wire.  Ground is not required for the light to work.

The hot wire is usually interrupted at the switch, that's how you make the light turn on/off.

Sometimes, they have the power source at the light and they use a single romex to go to the switch.

Black wire from ceiling box - hot to switch in wall.

White wire - hot from switch in wall to light fixture.  This interrupts the current and is correct in this case.  Usually, the electrician wraps the white wire end with black tape to let you know it's hot, not neutral.

  3. Switching the neutral is dangerous first off.  Some one could come along and presume the hot wire to be off from the switch and receive an electrical shock.

Second, this can also cause damage to this lights as well.

Why this would be difficult to change seems wrong.  It should be very simple to correct this problem.

I advise calling someone with knowledge or expertise on this to preform a repair for you.  Faulty wiring is declared as source of ignition all the time.  Being aware of a hazard that could take your entire investment and possessions is and not correcting it is just a gamble that no family or person should take.  If this has been done in one location of the house, many other things may be wrong as well.
