  1. what do you need

you need to be more specific!

  2. What kind of Science project? Or have you not chosen one and thats what you need help with?

If your looking for a cool science project how about atmospheric pressure and thermodynamics? Its also fun to use on a camping trip.

    YOU WILL NEED:

    1X Empty Soda Can

1X Large Bowl (or other container)

1X Tongs (to hold extreemly hot things with)

    Water (the colder the better).

    Ice

An open flame (the hotter the better).

    1. Take an empty soda can, put a small amout of water in the bottom. It shouldn't be more than a 1/4 of an inch full, but this doesn't need to be exact, just wing it. Set it aside.

    2. Fill a large bowl with freezing cold water. It is extreemly important that the water in the bowl is as cold as possible (without being frozen)to promote the best reaction. You can put ice in it to make sure that it stays cold.

    3. Grab the soda can with the tongs and hold it over the open flame, you should hear the small amount of water in it start to boil eventually. Wait untill almost all of the water has evaporated from the can.

Note: Step number 4 must be done VERY quickly so that the can and the water vapor inside are still very hot. It may take a couple tries to get right.

    4. When you believe that most of the water has evaporated from the soda can turn it over so that the opening is facing down and put it in the bowl of freezing water so that the opening is only slightly under-water.

    5. The cold water in the bowl will cause the extreemly hot water vapor in the can to super-cool and condense almost instantly, leaving a vaccum inside the can. Which will then implode from the natural atmospheric pressure of our planet.

I have had some cans only implode to about 1 1/2 inches thick with a dull sound, and others that the implosion was violent enough to render the can less than 1/2 an inch thick and made a sound loud enough that it hurt your ears.

Warning: NEVER DIRECTLY HANDLE THE CAN! When it implodes it can take your fingers with it which could result in some serious injuries.

    Anyway, hope that helps.
