A little confused about how much my 4 month old is eating.

My 4 month old used to eat around 30oz a day and for a week or so now it's a battle to get him to have atleast 25. He is waking up in the middle of the night hungry. How do I get him to have a little more during the day?

It's a challenge to get him to finish a six ounce bottle....it's like he's to busy to eat. Distracted, you know?

He's healthy...had a check up yesterday.

I just would like to know, did anyone else have this problem? How did you fix it?

  1. I have the same problem, but with my 3 and a half month old, when he was yonger he used to swallow his 4 oz bottles, so I upped them and he would eat that too. But a couple weeks ago I had to really try and get him to eat, I guess I was scared how his appetite changed so suddenly.

But as long as hes eating hes fine, some babies just go through a phase, like mine does now and then. Just feed him what he wants,  my health advisor said to feed him every 2 hours in the day and then he will sleep well at night, and wake up nice and ready to eat his who bottle.

But dont worry, hes fine, and will start eating more soon. mine is now eating 6 oz and hes 3 half months. sometimes he leaves some, some times he dont, so dont worry.

  2. if he is hungry, he will eat... simple as that...

  3. could be a growth spurt..feed him when he's hungry.

  4. He is learning new things and is distracted. Try finding a quiet spot to feed him, away from the t.v. and others. He will focus more on his food and less on other things. Babies go through changes just like grownups, they may eat more or less during certain times of transition. As long as he is healthy don't worry to much, he will get back on track.

  5. YEA I HAD THIS PROBLEM BUT ALL I DID IS STRETCH HIS FEEDINGS OUT AND AT NIGHT IF HE STILL WAKES UP HUNGERY FEED HIM BUT PUT MORE SPACE BETWEEN EACH BOTTLE AND AT FOUR MONTHS OLD HE SHOULD BE EATING BABY FOOD

  6. My 4 month old is the same. Its really hard work to get her to feed. She'll have about 4 or 5 oz's then doesnt seem to want any more then when i do get her to (a hour later) she will suck 3 times then turn her head and get really grumpy for about 5 seconds then turn and do the same thing over and over again. She doesnt wake in the night mind and has been sleeping 10pm - 6am since she's been 5 weeks old!! Ive just started to give her some solid food though so i'm hoping this will help. I just kind of trust she will eat if she's hungry and if she's not she won't. It takes me 2 hours to feed her but then a hour later she wants feeding again so we start the whole process all over again! I dont think she's being distracted personnally. Just try in a quiet room if its the same maybe its just a phase he's going through. Hope this helps x
