Question:

A little daycare help please.?

First time mommy here. I am a little over 5 months pregnant and will need daycare when the baby is born. Is it too early to start interviewing daycare places? While I am a budget concious person, I am also the type that wants to feel very comfortable with who will be watching my daughter. I have friends and family telling me to get on it and start calling. My other question is when is the best time to call. I tried calling one place and she was busy and was going to call me back. This was at 4 and I could hear kids in the background, so I am guessing 4 is not a good time to call, she is going to call me back.

Any help would be grateful, thank you.

  1. I would suggest looking now. Often places have waiting lists for infants as the amount of babies you can have it pretty small!

Angel, you are very disrespectful and closed minded. I'm sure that all of us would like to be stay at home moms, but we can't all afford it. Being a mom isn't about spending every minute with your child. It's about loving them and nurturing them and raising them to be good people.

  2. No, it's not to early to look for the right place. Instead of calling you should stop by unexpectantly for a tour, that way you can see how the teachers treat the children and you can see the center working in action. good luck

  3. Some day cares have long waiting lists for infants. at least where I live there are. So the sooner you do it the better. As for time of day to call....I would say around 1230. They serve lunch at my day care at about 1130 and then the kids go for quiet time.

  4. I would call in the morning, around 10-11ish. and no its not too early to start interviewing places. a lot of daycares have waiting lists and you need to look Asap.

  5. I would defiantly start looking now because you want to know before your little one is here were they will be at. I would go for a center type place even though it is more expensive. They receive more education and need to pass more inspections. I know it can be costly but you don't want to sacrifice care for money. I would call early in the morning or after 2 and before 4 that way you can avoid lunch, nap, and dinner time. Good luck and just keep looking until you feel you have found the right one.

  6. y are having a child to put in to daycare..

surely you will be having time off to enjoy your child once he/she arrives??

it really annoys me that some people have kids and then send them off to nursery/daycare wherever.. whats the point in having kids if you are going to do that!!

your only 5 months anything could happen.. i wish all the luck in the world.. but dont have your baby and palm it off for others to look after thats not what parenting is all about!!!

  7. I am 7 months and have tried contacting a few places as well at the insistence of family members, but have found that it is kind of pointless at this point. I have had interviews to see what places/people I like, but because licensed daycares have a limit on the number of kids and kids of a certain age that they can watch, they can't guarantee you a spot when you need it. I have basically been told, "if we have any infant openings when you go back to work in January, we would be happy to take your son."  So like I said, it's nice to get a head start, but you can't expect a daycare to hold an open spot for the next 5 or 6 months, so there isn't a whole lot of use.  Anytime during the day isn't really great as daycares are so busy.  I found some luck calling around 1, as a lot of places do a nap/quiet time around this time.

Edit: To Angel-----that's very judgmental of you.  Great that you get to stay home with your children, but not everyone is given that luxury, and that doesn't make us bad parents...it just means we have to work to support our children and no one should feel guilty about that.

  8. Call around 11 in the afternoon. And yes start calling now! If you wait, most places will be booked.
