A little help please? australians would be more helpful?

i am looking for a good quality camcorder as my main present for my 16th. i want something thats not pricey, preferable less than $1000 and that is easy to use and has good fetures, sturdy body and good quality image and high memory capabiltys. can anybody suggest any good camcorders? thanks so much!
