A little question in football?

Well i'm a linebacker at my HS (OLB). I used to be somewhat pudgy but weighed a small amount. I was 171 and pudgy. I recently had 2 skip practice for a good 2 weeks or so and went from 1st string to 4th due to summa school in a diff county. Well anyways during those 2week i did balls out training. Everyday i did 250 steps, straight jump plyometrics for 30 seconds 6 times, and jumped rope( 100 times and then 50 each foot and 100 alternating) and lifted and drank protein shakes for 2 weeks straight. i came back to practice and was easily the fastest on defense and probably the 5th hardest hitter the rest that hit hard are somoins, and i now weigh 187.9 pounds and am roughly 5'11 or 5'10. Well my question is should i continue to play OLb seeing as how it is seemingly near impossible for me 2 get my spot back because this DB coach acts like he's a defensive head coach and will find ways for me to get zero reps because his favorite player who he coached his freshman year now starts?

  1. I coached football for a few years while I was finishing up college and we never had a problem like this, but we did have a few players come visit us in the office and talk it over with us.

The best thing for you to do is to go in the coaches office after practice (after you have had a good practice is the right time to do this) and talk to your coaches about your spot on the team.  Tell them you have worked hard and you want to get back on the field, and your willing to do anything that takes, even if that means you have to learn a new position.  Tell them that you really believe in order to have a successful team you have to have the best 11 athletes out on the field, and you feel you are one of them.  You might have to learn a middle LB spot, or D-end.  Tell them that you want to get back on the field, ask them to either work with you (extra reps with younger kids to get familiar with the D, and your reads, or giving you a play book for a different position to study)

The best way to do this is to approach them like a man, and sit down in their office and discuss this with them.  You will earn much more respect doing it that way, because you are showing the sacrifice you are willing to make to be a part of the team.  If you just change positions on your own they wont have a clue why you are doing so.

    Best of luck to you.

  2. Play DE and S s***w ur coach man.

  3. dude im a Hs QB.. the one way u can do it is by after practice go up and ask .. "hey coach what do i have to do to get my starting spot back?" and he mite give u drills .. and u should not focus on the position u want to play.. but whats best for the team..

  4. Sounds like you could make a good tight end. It is a critical part of a team, especially in high school.

    Can you catch?

The other thing you can do is make is favorites look bad by beating them in every drill. The head coach will notice and override his D coach (to show him who is in charge). I've seen this happen many times.
