Question:

A little worried about marriage license....

My husband left for basic for the ARMY yesterday, and I'm a bit worried, we recently got married and on the marriage license (california) it says name at birth of father/parent... My husband never knew his birth father (thought his name is on his birth certificate) and his father that he has lived with his entire life never adopted him, but that was the name he put down. Think this will pose a problem to the army, or for me getting benefits? *Sigh* I swear this whole military thing is going to give my pregnant self a heart attack. How do you guys do it.

  1. If you have a military ID go to your nearest Army base and go to the JAG office (Judge Advocate General) the military version of Lawyers.  Ask them what they think you should do.  If you dont have a Military ID have your husband go and enroll you into DEERS, have him ask his Drill Sergeant what it is and where to do it.  Once you are enrolled you are entitled to all the benefits of the military(hospital, dental, life insurance, legal services etc etc etc) Then you should be able to help yourself out.

  2. Don't worry.. It was an honest answer and would not pose any threat to you or your husband especially with the benefits that you are getting.. What's important is that both your names are in the marriage license.. It's not like a birth certificate where the primary person needed are the parents.. The primary names on the marriage license that they are concerned about are his and yours so you guys are fine.. The most he can do is explain if ever asked.. Congratulations on the baby and being a good wife and American...

  3. Military only cares about whether you have a marriage license or not.  If there is an error with it the concern is going to be with the state that issued the license.  I wouldn't worry about this one though.  No one is ever going to know unless you tell them or post it someplace like Yahoo Answers, Oops!  Just kidding....Don't worry about it.
