A long plane ride without DVDs--help!!!?

I'm about to get on an airplane for 18 hours. I can't take a DVD player (traveling light) and I'm assuming the plane will have movies/personal screens anyways.

So, what do you do when you have an 18 hour flight? Any ideas? Any good podcasts I should get? I have my family traveling with me. Any good games?

Basically, how would you pass the time?

PS--I already have sleeping pills!

  1. READ!!!!!!!!! Find a good book and read it.  Also invest in a large megabyte ipod that can store movies on it.  Other than that the movie listings on planes now a days are very extensive so you can entertain yourself for a long time.  Also cards with family are always fun and you can find portable games that are small and magnetic so easy to deal with.

  2. The best thing I can think of is to take some Dremamine.  It will help you sleep through turbulence and any airsickness you might experience.  Stay awake the entire night and day before so that your body is exhausted enough to sleep at least most of the way.  My unit and I just flew back (the long way) from overseas and spent over 30 hours on a plane hopping from continent to continent.  That's how all 250 of us got through it, and were on the ground before we knew it.  You probably don't believe me if you haven't been on a long flight, but the quickest way to survive it is to sleep.  Once you touch down and get to your destination, you'll have tons of time to watch movies, listen to your iPod, play games, whatever.  Have fun, wherever you're going!  (I'm done travelling for a while ha ha)

  3. play cards, do crosswords, sudoku, there are many games with words: for ex. each of you name a letter or you take a long word and then you try to make another words.... the one who has more words - wins

  4. i pretty  much just watched the tv the whole time on my flight. unfortunately i couldnt sleep (11 hour flight) but they had on enough movies and tv shows that i was able to watch every thing i wanted .  what i did before was i spend a week just downloading new music  and cds that i liked so i had plenty of new things to check out.   sudoku and crosswords took up some time too.
