A look at Carlota Ciganda's performance in 2012 season
In 2012 season, the LET (Ladies European Tour) saw a bunch of players prove their worth by winning tournaments and different accolades, but what Carlota Ciganda did was big enough to dwarf
any other contender’s success.
Ciganda, hailing from Spain, was playing her rookie season on the Tour this year, and given the level of competition, it made little sense to pin hopes on her. Despite the presence of big
names like Scottish Carly Booth and Catriona Matthew in the lineup, she exhibited a headline-grabbing performance in most of the tournaments in the season.
“I've won two amazing tournaments in Holland and China and that was great,” Ciganda said while speaking to the media during one of her recent interviews.
The young gun has been training hard on the practice range for months, which appears to have paid off.
“I've been playing all over and I'm playing and having fun. It's been a very good year. Hopefully I can win many more titles in the future”.
Although the Spanish golfer won two tournaments in the season, but notching up the two most prestigious titles of the season—ISPS Handa Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year—was something
she needed to win over fans across the world.
Ciganda only joined the LET in February 2012, but by then, she had put together a stellar professional profile that reflected her hidden talent.
Her victories helped her grab the spotlight amid giants like Carly Booth making their mark on the Tour. Booth grabbed won two tournaments early in the season.
Ciganda won the Deloitte Ladies Open 2012 and China Suzhou Taihu Open 2012 in style. But it was more than just a victory as the star golfer had convinced herself that she could pull off an
even bigger show at the end of the season.
In addition to winning two tournaments in the year, she also recorded 10 top-10 finishes—something indicating she has managed to get a solid grip on her game in recent months.
Lalla Meryem Cup, held in late March, saw her post an overall 280, finishing tied for the 9th position on the leaderboard. She then jetted to Turkey in May to take part in the Turkish
Airlines Ladies Open. It was a demonstration of another rock-solid performance, which saw Ciganda finish tied for the third position.
She once again let her fans see her aggressive side after she finished tied for the seventh position at the Unicredit Ladies German Open. Right after this, she racked up her first title at
Deloitte Ladies Open, held from June 1-3, at Rotterdam, Netherlands.
With confidence running at an all-time high, Ciganda finished the last five tournaments of the season inside the top 10, including a victory at the China Suzhou Taihu Open, played in late
October at Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club, China.
