Continued from part III...
Against Oakland Raiders
The dejected Vikings had very little chance of making it to the playoffs, but they wanted to give their best shot to at least end the season on a positive note.
They had so far won two games in the season and their next opponents were the Oakland Raiders.
However, Vikings continued to struggle on offence as well as defence and got another defeat.
As it had happened many times in the season before, Vikings started the game well and got a touchdown in the first quarter, but Raiders hit back in the same quarter and scored a field goal to reduce the deficit.
In the second quarter, Raiders not only overcome the lead, but they got a healthy advantage over the opponents as they scored three touchdowns.
Raiders added another field goal in the third quarter to increase the lead. Vikings finally managed to score two touchdowns in the final quarter, but could not overcome the deficit and lost the game. The final score settled at 27-21.
At Atlanta
Vikings were certain of not reaching the playoffs, but they were continuously making failed attempts to cheer their fans.
When they travelled to play against the Atlanta Falcons, their cause was not served.
Falcons dominated the opponents from the start and scored a touchdown in the first quarter. Falcons scored another touchdown in the second quarter while adding a field goal.
Vikings got their first scoring move in the third quarter in the form of a touchdown.
They added another touchdown in the final quarter, but Falcons also scored a touchdown to ensure their victory. The final score settled at 24-14.
Against Denver Broncos
Vikings were on a three-game losing streak when they hosted the Denver Broncos.
Vikings made a brilliant attempt to end the skid, but at the end, they just could not prevent it from increasing to four games.
Vikings started the game well and earned two safety points early in the first quarter. Broncos scored a touchdown in the same quarter to which Vikings replied with scoring a field goal.
Vikings added a touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter to take the lead.
Broncos added two touchdowns in the third quarter while Vikings could only get one.
Both teams were separated by just one point before the start of the final quarter in which Vikings got a touchdown and a field goal whereas Broncos got one touchdown and two field goals and eventually won the game.
The final score settled at 35-32.
At Detroit
The sorry tale for the Vikings continued at Detroit as well as the Lions handed Vikings their fifth defeat in a row.
Lions started the game aggressively and had scored three touchdowns in the first quarter before Vikings got their first touchdown.
Lions added a touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter in which Vikings added another touchdown.
Vikings did well not to allow any scoring move in the third quarter and scored a touchdown, but the lead was still favouring the Lions.
Lions increased their lead in the final quarter by scoring a field goal, but Vikings replied by scoring a touchdown. Unfortunately for Vikings, that touchdown proved to be the last scoring move of the game and they lost yet again with the final score settling
at 34-28.
