A look at Minnesota Vikings’ failure in last NFL season (Part V)
Continued from part IV...
Against New Orleans Saints
It was evident that Vikings will not reach the playoffs now and they had no answer to the extensive criticism they were facing.
Vikings were on a five-game losing streak when they hosted the New Orleans Saints, who went on to qualify for the playoffs.
Under quarterback, Drew Brees, Saints were already crushing their opponents and they showed no mercy whey they took on Vikings.
Vikings scored the first scoring move of the game in the form of a field goal, but Saints managed to get a touchdown towards the end of the first quarter.
Vikings scored another field goal early in the second quarter, but Saints once again replied with scoring a touchdown.
Vikings also got a touchdown in the quarter, but Saints got their second touchdown of the quarter to retain the lead.
Saints increased their lead by scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter without giving away any point. Both teams scored a touchdown each in the final quarter as Saints won the game, 42-20.
Disappointed Vikings’ linebacker, Chad Greenway, said after the game:
"You can break down every player -- good, bad or ugly -- but we just aren't good enough as a team, as a group.”
At Washington
After losing six games in a row, Vikings surprisingly got something to cheer about when they travelled to play against the Washington Redskins, who were also having a miserable season.
Vikings got a good start to the game, but they struggled slightly during the game. However, they were still able to finish the game on a positive note to get their third victory of the season.
Vikings started with scoring a field goal in the first quarter. They scored a touchdown in the second quarter to increase the lead to 10 points.
Redskins, however, got a touchdown and a field goal in the same quarter to level the score. The halftime score settled at 10-10.
Redskins scored a field goal in the third quarter and Vikings hit back hard by scoring a touchdown. Redskins also scored a touchdown in the quarter, but Vikings once again replied by scoring in the quarter.
Redskins scored another field goal in the final quarter after which Vikings luckily got a touchdown and a field goal to get a healthy advantage. Redskins could only score a field goal after that and lost the game.
The final score settled at 33-26.
Against Chicago Bears
Vikings had only three victories under their belt and when they played their last game of the season, they could only improve the number of defeats.
Vikings started the game against Chicago Bears well and scored a field goal and a touchdown in the first quarter without allowing any scoring move.
Bears, however, scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and allowed Vikings to score only a field goal.
The third quarter went scoreless and Bears added another field goal in the final to seal the victory.
The final score settled at 17-13.
Vikings played the game with two quarterbacks.
Joe Webb finished the game with completing 17 of his 32 attempted passes for 200 yards. He threw two interceptions.
On the other hand, Christian Ponder completed four of his 10 attempted passes for 28 yards and he threw one interception.
