A look at QPR’s chances in the English Premier League
After an absence of fifteen years, Queens Park Rangers have finally been promoted to play with the top clubs in the English Premier League. This has been long awaited by their fans in London, who see it as a relief after another London-based club, West Ham
United, were relegated.
The Championship title was secured with much thanks to Adel Taarabt and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tommy-Smith-c35389 for their goals in the second-half of the match against Watford. QPR sealed the win for the trophy with a convincing 2-0 win. Though, they had to wait for a nervous two months
as they waited for a decision by the jury on the charge of seven different offences.
They were ultimately cleared on all counts but two, over the rule-breaking transfer of Argentine midfielder Alejandro Faurlin in 2009. Much to relief of the fans, QPR escaped the dreaded points deduction, content with the fine they had to pay.
However good QPR may have been in the championship, the golden question still remains: Can they come up with the goods when they meet the big boys?
For all that the history has made us learn, it will not be a walk in the park for Indian tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, and the F1 man Ecclestone’s team. The owners have already dished out £5 million to buy players. They have also guaranteed a £20 million debt as
per the new laws. This implies that the smaller clubs are worth around £13 million each.
£5 million is definitely paltry when compared with the buying budgets of the top five. Manchester United alone are willing to pay up to £30 million for the Chilean fireball that is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexis-Sánchez-c4979.
The Rangers may not have the luxury of spending big but they certainly will be content with the revenue they generate this season. They, in fact, will be the most expensive club to watch. The sale proceeds from the tickets from their match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429
will earn them more as opposed to the revenue generated from their return match scheduled at Emirates.
This, perhaps, is the only consolation that Mittal and Ecclestone will have to contend with in the 2011/12 session of the English Premier League.
On the contrary, Neil Warnock will look to justify his rank with his bosses. He has already steered the team in to the top tier league in the nation. Neil will look to Alejandro Faurlin and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adel-Taarabt-c3610 again. Along with
Taarabt, who provided his fans great delight with some spectacular goals, Faurlin has been instrumental in the team’s promotion to the Premier League.
Wayne Routledge, winger with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 has been solid in the shape of Paddy Kenny.
Paddy has been stout like a wall after he returned to the playing field upon ending of his suspension.
Warnock must get the credit for constructing a side that was the leading team almost throughout the Championship season ended. He, of all men, will know that they have their work cut out now. There is a reason why the league he has entered is called ‘Premier’.
QPR may have been the founding members of the English Premier League but that was back in 1992/1993. They now have to stand up and face the music almost a decade later.
For all practical reasons, Neil Warnock, Mittal and Ecclestone will be very happy just to survive and stay in the Premier League for the next season. That seems like a plausible occurrence, and that should be the target.
