A look at Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ failures in 2011 season – NFL Season Review (Part II)
Continued from part I...
At Minnesota
Although Tampa Bay was unable to start the season on a positive note, the Bucs marked a solid impression in their second game, which they played away from home against Minnesota Vikings.
Tampa Bay’s defence was badly exposed in the first half of the game in which they were unable to provide even a single scoring move. However, they registered an impressive comeback to first level the score and then seal the victory.
Vikings got the first scoring move of the game in the first quarter in the form of a touchdown.
In the second quarter, Vikings scored a field goal and got another touchdown while successfully preventing Tampa Bay from scoring.
The halftime score settled at 17-0.
The course of the game change completely in the final half as Tampa Bay found its rhythm.
In the third quarter, the Bucs scored a touchdown and added another field goal and their defence ensured Vikings did not score.
Tampa Bay was trailing by seven points when the final quarter started. Vikings added a field goal in the quarter to increase the lead to 10 points, but the Bucs added a touchdown and got another in the final minute of the game and won.
The final score settled at 24-20.
Against Atlanta Falcons
After winning their first game of the season, the Bucs returned home to play against Atlanta Falcons. Tampa Bay was still searching its first victory of the season on home field.
They had lost their first game of the season on home field and were hoping to carry winning momentum from the game against Minnesota Vikings.
The Bucs got a good start to the game. They scored a field goal in the first quarter and did not allow Falcons to score.
Falcons levelled the score by scoring a field goal early in the second quarter, but Tampa Bay scored a touchdown and a field goal in the quarter to enter the halftime with lead, 13-3.
The Bucs increased their lead further in the third quarter by scoring field goal.
In the final quarter, however, Falcons were brilliant. They were trailing by 13 points before the start of the quarter.
Flacons did now allow Tampa Bay to increase the lead and scored a touchdown and a field goal to reduce the deficit to only three points. However, they just could not clear that deficit and lost the game.
Bucs won the game, 16-13.
Bucs’ coach, Raheem Morris, said after the win:
"I just told the team we didn't come into the season to beat the Atlanta Falcons. We came into this season to win the division. They just happen to be a team that's in our division. We've got to beat those guys just like we've got to beat everybody else
in our division and try to win this thing so we can go to the playoffs, and then compete for a championship."
