A look at Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ failures in 2011 season – NFL Season Review (Part IV)
Continued from part III...
Against New Orleans Saints
After being humiliated against San Francisco 49ers, the Bucs returned home to host New Orleans Saints.
Both teams went neck and neck, but Tampa Bay was able to get more points in the second quarter, which eventually helped them win that game.
The Bucs got the first scoring move of the game in the form of a field goal, which was followed by a touchdown from Saints.
In the second quarter, however, Bucs scored two touchdowns and one field goal before Saints got a field goal.
The halftime score, 20-10, settled in favour of Tampa Bay.
Both team scored a field goal each in the third quarter after which Bucs were still carrying the lead.
Saints were still 10 points behind when the final quarter started. They scored a touchdown and reduced the deficit to only three points, but Bucs got a field goal to extend the lead to six points, which became decisive.
The final score settled at 26-20.
Tampa Bay’s head coach, Raheem Morris, was pleased to see his team playing so well especially after failing badly against 49ers in the last game.
He said after the victory:
"It's not a redemption thing. I had a lot of confidence in this team bouncing back, and I know you guys wrote us off for dead last week. ... I know this is a tough team."
Against Chicago Bears
Bucs lost their first game of the season on home field, but they had maintained a good record on their home field after that loss. They had played three more games on home after the first defeat and won them all.
Their next game was scheduled on the home field against Chicago Bears and many were expecting the Bucs to carry on their winning momentum in that game, but that, unfortunately, did not happen.
Bears dominated most part of the game and despite Tampa Bay’s late surge, Bears managed to protect their lead to hand the Bucs their third defeat of the season.
In the first quarter, Bears got the first scoring move of the game in the form of touchdown. Tampa Bay got two safety points in the same quarter after they tackled Bears’ player in his own end zone.
In the second quarter, Bears scored another touchdown after which Tampa Bay got a field goal. Bears entered the halftime with lead, 14-5.
In the third quarter, Bears did not allow Bucs to register any scoring move and scored a touchdown to extend the lead, 21-5.
Bucs started the final quarter aggressively. They surged back to score two touchdowns and the deficit was reduced to only three points.
However, Bears got a field goal towards the end of the quarter and won the game. The final score settled at 24-18.
Bucs’ head coach, Raheem Morris, said after the game:
"The problem with us is we're too young. We're foolish. ... There's no excuses, no explanations, no travel excuses, no time zone excuses, whatever you want to call it.”
Tampa Bay had a bye week after this game.
