A look at Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ failures in 2011 season – NFL Season Review (Part VI)
Continued from Part V
At Green Bay Packers
After an embarrassing 37-9 defeat at the hands of the Houston Texans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced one of their toughest encounters yet as they travelled to Green Bay, Wisconsin to face the undefeated Packers and quarterback, Aaron Rodgers at the Lambeau
Field.
The Bucs were horrendous against the Texans but facing the Packers they once again showed signs of their early season form.
Green Bay played with their usual class as they built up a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. However, Tampa Bay did not collapse completely and continued to try and make plays.
Their efforts were rewarded at 12:46 as running back LeGarrette Blount powered his way through Green Bay’s defensive unit and rushed for 54-yards to score the Bucs first points.
Green Bay though increased their lead 21-10 at the end of the first half as quarterback, Aaron Rodgers threw his second touchdown pass of the night to Jordy Nelson from five yards.
A Connor Barth field goal late in the third quarter pegged the Packers lead back to 21-13 but it seemed like Green Bay would easily run out the winners.
Bucs quarterback, Josh Freeman though had other ideas as he rallied his team in the final quarter with two touchdown passes and took the Buccaneers to just two points behind the Packers with four-minutes remaining on the clock.
With the score at 28-26 the game could have gone either team’s way.
The Buccaneers went for an onside kick, however, Rodgers stepped up in the final two minutes to connect with a 40-yard pass to Jordy Nelson as he helped Green Bay maintain their unbeaten run with a 35-26 victory.
Tampa Bay had lost its fourth game in a row and fans were starting to get frustrated with the results.
At Tennessee Titans
Tampa Bay arrived at Tennessee’s LP Field looking to end their four-game losing streak and for most of the game it looked like they were right on course to change things around.
The Buccaneers were up by 17-10 at the end of the third quarter thanks to a Josh Freeman touchdown pass in the final minutes of the second quarter and defenseman, Aqib Talib’s 27-yard interception return in the third quarter.
However, they could not build on that lead as the Titans took complete control in the final quarter.
Two field goals from Titans kicker, Rob Bironas and a two-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to Damian Williams secured the Titans a 23-17 victory over the regressing Bucs.
It was a fifth straight defeat for Tampa Bay and things were starting to go from bad to worse for the franchise and coach, Raheem Morris.
