A look at the 20 top players in the world of Golf today: Brandt Snedeker
Brandt Snedeker and American professional golfer was born on 8th December 1980 in Nashville Tennessee.
Snedeker’s introduction to golf came about through his maternal grandmother, who used to manage a golf course in Missouri. Snedeker is currently living in Nashville with his wife Mandy and their daughter Lily who was born on March 3rd 2011.
Early in his career Snedeker attended Montgomery Bell Academy and then Vanderbilt University where he was a member of the Chi Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order which is high ranking fraternity with around 150000 members. Snedeker graduated from Vanderbilt
University in 2003 with a degree in Communications.
Snedeker won the US Amateur Public Links in 2003 and soon after turned professional. From 2004 to 2006 he played on the Nationwide Tour and recorded two wins, which resulted in earning a PGA Tour spot for 2007.
Early in 2007 Snedeker attracted immediate attention after he shot a course record equalling 61 in the first round of the Buick Invitational, although he ended up at 3rd place. After several Top-10 finishes during the season, he finally recorded
his first PGA Tour victory in the Wyndham Championship. It was his prolific season performance in which he entered 29 PGA Tour events made 23 cuts including one win, a third place finish, six Top-10 finishes and 13 Top-25 finishes that led him to be nominated
the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.
Snedeker recorded his first Top-10 finish in a major at the Masters Tournament in 2008, he finished third. He maintained his consistency in the season but was not able to record a win.
In the year 2009 Snedeker was not performing to his potential, hindered by a rib injury he had to miss seven consecutive tournaments in the middle of the season. 2010 was again not very promising for the American golfer as he struggled with form and although
he was steady in his performance but was not able to record a win.
Snedeker started the 2011 in hope for a win, but it seemed that luck was not with him and the win was eluding him, he finished 4th at the Valero Texas Open but had a possibility to win it. He finally claimed a much needed win when he won the PGA
Tour title at the Heritage, beating current world number 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). Snedeker is currently ranked 25th in the OWGR.
Apart from being a professional golfer Snedeker is also a kind personality and has been a regular donator. Recently he has been working to raise funds for the flood victims in Tennessee, he along with his wife Mandy and friend Lucas Glover have organised
an American Mortgage Charity Cup competition which will feature golfers and celebrities.
While talking to the media about the event Snedeker said “My wife Mandy and I really wanted to find a way to help our community which is still struggling today. We are committed to make this a special golf tournament that will create a positive result for
those who are still struggling from this awful flood.”
The event is scheduled for October 17 and 18 at The Golf Club of Tennessee near Nashville, TN. This will be the fourth year running of the event which has raised more than $150,000 for local charities since its formation.
